CSC Chair Bala holds online confab with gov’t CIOs on Work-from-Home Challenges and Solutions in the New Normal
27 June 2020 (Quezon City) - Chairperson Alicia dela Rosa-Bala of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) on June 25 briefed via online conference some 140 government chief information officers (CIOs) on guidelines for work-from-home (WFH) and other alternative work arrangements under the new normal.

Chairperson Bala discussed details of CSC Memorandum Circular No. 10 which she issued last May 7, 2020, entitled "Revised Interim Guidelines for Alternative Work Arrangements and Support Mechanisms for Workers in the Government During the Period of State of National Emergency Due to COVID-19 Pandemic."

The conference delegates were incumbent and former government CIOs affiliated with the CIOForum and CIOF Foundation, which are civil society organizations registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to advocate for the widespread use of information and communications (ICT) technology in government operations, frontline services, and governance.

As long-time advocates for digital transformation and telecommuting in government, CIOForum and CIOF Foundation conducted the 2020 CIOF First Online General Membership Meeting and Conference on the theme "Accelerating Digital Transformation in the New Normal".

The conference featured a presentation by Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Director Aida Yuvienco of the findings of the DICT survey on government's readiness for WFH, with responses from panelists representing industry partners Cisco and Fortinet.

Independent ICT policy researcher Mary Grace Mirandilla-Santos gave a situationer on the country's state of broadband connectivity, emphasizing the need to upgrade circa 1931 "analog" oriented policies to modern regulations fit for new technological necessities.

Experts from Cisco and Fortinet presented technology platforms and solutions relevant to working environments under the new normal.
